Secretary Health Gilgit Baltistan Saeedullah Khan Niazi said Monday the government was taking effective measures for providing best health facilities to masses and would construct a 500-bed hospital in Skardu.
Briefing media persons in commissioner house, the secretary health said that a feasibility report had been prepared for the hospital which would be stretching upon 500 kanal of lands.
He said that the hospital would have all modern healthcare facilities including Cardiac unit which would help a long way in resolving problems being faced by masses in health sector.
He said that after preparing a master plan of the hospital, its one block would be completed by next year.
Replying to a question, the secretary health said that demands of doctors were being fulfilled and regularization act for doctors had been passed which would be included into gazette of Pakistan.
He said that chief secretary was seized with the powers of promotions and more than 100 doctors would be regularized as notification was issued. He added that summary for 200 new posts for doctors had been forwarded and after their recruitment number of doctors would reach to 700 doctors in health sector.
In 2013, the secretary health said only 151 doctors had been working and patients had to face high-handedness and problems in the hospitals. He said it was moral obligation to treat patients in government hospitals instead of forcing them to go private clinics.
He said under PPRA rules the health sector was bound to procure medicines on lesser prices which had created hindrance to get quality medicine. The government was needed to introduce amendment in relevant rules and allow health department to procure quality and standard medicine on cheaper rates too.
He said that emergency medicines would be provided free of cost to patients in government hospitals from March, adding service structure for paramedics was being framed in order to ensure merit in their promotion.
He said that those nurses who had four year experience in nursing course would be prepfared in promotion and promoted to grade 12.
Currently, the secretary health secretary said there was dire need of technicians and thus services of more technicians would be utilized. He said that there was shortage of neuro surgeons, gynecologists and cardiac doctor in Gilglit Baltistan, thus solid measures were being taken to overcome the shortage of doctors in hospitals especially lady doctors.
He said that a neighboring country had gifted 500 bed and of them 30 were given to Skardu hospital, 30 Chilas, 15 Astore, 15 Khapalo and 10 beds to hospital in Gilgit. He said that MRI machine had been installed in Gilgit Hospital and separately, one had been ordered for Skardu hospital.
He said ho project had been shelved halfway and all the schemes were timely completed in health sector, adding operation budget of all hospitals had been enhanced double and all the projects were being pursued in transparent manner. He said there was no paucity of medicines and Rs 60 million worth medicines had arrived while Rs 200 million was in process.
He said that for the first time OPD and an emergency was being separated which would extend relief to patients.
