9/6/17 - CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) Puts Up Mobile Pharmacies To Assist Hurricane Harvey Victims

CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) Pharmacy has revealed that it is providing general assistance as well as availing emergency pharmacy resources to Hurricane Harvey victims. Towards these relief efforts, the drug store chain has put up a mobile pharmacy outlet in Houston at the NRG Center. At this pop-up pharmacy evacuees can receive recommended vaccines, buy over-the-counter drugs and pick up prescriptions. The mobile pharmacy's hours of operation are between 8 am and 8 pm.

The Texas Department of State Health Services will, in cooperation with CVS Pharmacy, offer pharmacy services to residents of Texas who have fled their homes in the wake of Hurricane Harvey via pop-up pharmacies which are being put up at emergency centers located in San Antonio, Dallas and Texas.

Emergency prescriptions

In these pop-up pharmacies, pharmacy personnel and pharmacists have been placed at the shelters in order to counsel patients as well as facilitate delivery of prescription drugs from pharmacies that are nearby. The pop-up pharmacies will fill one a one-off emergency prescription with supplies being guaranteed for up to 30 days for residents of the shelters who have been displaced and dont have their medication.

This comes in the wake of a donation made by CVS Health Foundation earlier in the week where $200,000 was earmarked for helping in the recovery and relief efforts. $50,000 will go to the American Red Cross and Greater Houston Community Foundation while $25,000 will go to the Salvation Army. CVS Health has also made donations totaling $90,000 in kind and this includes products such as over-the-counter, clean-up and personal hygiene items. Additionally colleague donations will be matched up to a value of $25,000.

Rite Aid Foundation

Other retail drugstore chains which have made donations aimed at assisting Hurricane Harvey relief efforts include Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE:RAD) whose foundation has pledged to give American Red Cross $100,000.

As relief efforts continue and rebuilding begins, The Rite Aid Foundation hopes that this donation to the American Red Cross will help make a difference to those most affected by this devastating storm, said Ken Martindale, the Rite Aid Foundation president.

On Tuesday shares of CVS Health Corp fell by 0.99% to close the day at $78.69.
